CUPS N CAKES
“As we get to the latter half of the record a darker and more complex side of Sasha Cay’s songwriting comes to light. The instrumentation gets slightly broader with the track “Man Man Man” with beautiful and haunting violins floating through the track giving the lyrics a sinister yet crushing instrumental to sit on. Spin the title track to close the record out slowly builds off of the repetitive and catchy guitar line and builds tension and high emotion near the end of the track. The intensity within the track really transcends the whole record and lets you sink into every note and lyric you have heard in the last 30 minutes. Sasha’s uniquely brilliant songwriting proves to reinvent and push boundaries in the indie rock music world. If you are in need of a beautiful, moody and honest record, then I cannot recommend this more. Enjoy.”
EXCLAIM!
“Spin arrives September 22 via Lighter Than Air. Featuring previous single "Comedy," the 10-track record follows a series of short Bandcamp releases. You can check out the full tracklisting below. On its lead single, the musician takes us on a dark, distortion-drenched walk through Montreal — the city where she grew up and still lives — with her stream-of-consciousness lyrical flow delivered sombrely, refracting little glints of the streetlights in the damp pavement.”
BUCKETLIST
“Easily my favourite performance of the night was Sasha Cay. Accompanied by bass and drums, the trio put on a smooth set of sad-but-happy tunes that really connected with the crowd. On-point vocals facilitated the trip. There was a cheerful ambiance in the room. That, as well as the mellow indie flow, made for a good change-up. For fans of Snail Mail, Sasha Cay is in that same vein and plays Montreal again May 10th at the Diving Bell Social Club.”
