CULT MTL "Like our city’s bagels, the band remains unique, in part due to a certain sweetness that comes along with their easy-breezy aura. Since last year’s POP performance opening for Homeshake, this trio has been quietly continuing to pay their dues. A headlining Friday night show seemed fitting for Cay, she and her bandmates rightfully earning a show of their own."
BUCKETLIST “Easily my favourite performance of the night was Sasha Cay. Accompanied by bass and drums, the trio put on a smooth set of sad-but-happy tunes that really connected with the crowd. On-point vocals facilitated the trip. There was a cheerful ambiance in the room. That, as well as the mellow indie flow, made for a good change-up. For fans of Snail Mail, Sasha Cay is in that same vein and plays Montreal again May 10th at the Diving Bell Social Club.”
INDIE88 (Premiering Archie) “The track is a gritty, echoing ballad that revolves around Cay’s melancholic, silky vocal lines as she delivers powerful lyricism.”
WHEN THE HORN BLOWS(interview with Sasha):Could you tell us about how you came up with the ideas for the ‘Back To’ visuals? I’ve always been fascinated with playing cards and their design, and most recently I’ve been drawing out my own tarot figures and had the idea to make the music video for ‘Back To’ a reference to Agnès Varda’s film Cléo de 5 à 7, which begins with the main character getting her fortune read.
EARMILK “Montreal’s Sasha Cay released her latest single “Archie” with an intimate and beautiful video she directed and edited. The single is the first offering from her upcoming EP set to be released in 2020.”
MYSTIC SONS“Canadian frontwoman brings the same wistful feel as The War On Drugs to her latest indie-rock groove”
VARIOUS SMALL FLAMES“Pitched halfway between relaxed and melancholic, the album brings to mind the likes of Sun June in its ability to craft nuanced feelings from understated instrumentation. Single ‘Washing Dishes’ demonstrates Sasha Cay’s captivating rhythms and alluring vocals, where simmering emotion burns bright beneath the gentle surface, undercurrents of bright white feeling that are sure to drag you under.”
OBSCURE SOUND "Among the highlights on the EP is 'Pour Some Water', where caressing vocals, soft acoustics, and a sporadic bass line establishes a captivating feel. The mid-point sees some considerable expansion from the hypnotic beginning, with lush rainy-day organs and a symphonic-like backing brooding closing the track off with resounding success."
